I spent so much time as a young mother worried about the state of our home. Once you pull the bandage off and just invite people over - you realize many are in the same situation you are in! After many false starts I have finally found a supportive and nourishing community. I hope other young mothers can read this and understand that a lot of people are just waiting for someone to reach out.

Thank you so much for this comment! It takes time to cultivate community and the sooner we all stop worrying about what the house looks like, the sooner we can get to those friendships we crave.

I was scared to ask for numbers and nervous to have new people in my home, but once I started it felt so good and allll the other moms were so appreciative.

Now I’m getting numbers at the park left and right! 😅 thanks again for the supportive comment and for being here! ❤️

I love hosting play dates for that motherhood connection and a chance for the kids to play.

Thank you for these tips. I’m an introvert so find it hard to break the ice and invite people I hardly know. I’ve been thinking about starting an outdoor playgroup for a year but haven’t managed to pluck up the courage to invite anyone yet. This post is just the gentle nudge I needed.

I love that you outlined it so simply and concisely. And your pictures are great examples, but it also doesn’t have to be in the cute baskets either- the less excuses/barriers the better!

Love this!!!!!

Me and a couple of friends go over one house with kids and it makes mothering so much better, easier and a breath of fresh air. These practical tips are awesome. Love the snack and coffee sitting out idea!!! Yesss. Want to do this out my house more often.

Yay I’m so glad this resonated!! Yes, the coffee is always a major hit. Elevates the whole experience for the moms without too much effort.

Hey Cadence! I love this. I just hosted my second playgroup last Saturday. It was so fun! One of the moms who came said it was her first social outing in months. It felt so good to get together and to hear that everyone else's three year old is challenging too! Planning another one for two weeks from now.

I’m so happy to hear this, good for you!! It’s so so nice for us to have other moms that we can talk about all the things we are going through with. A playgroup is the perfect way to do it! I’m sure all the moms were so appreciative and so nice to know you’ve already scheduled the next one.

And for what it’s worth… three years old was a challenging year for us, too!

These are great simple, but practical ways to push beyond a comfort zone and make friends for both you and your kids. Too often I let the state of my home prevent me from hospitality on short notice. My oldest is always asking if we can having a neighbor family over for lunch or dinner (like 5 minutes before it happens lol) so I'm always looking for ways to be more flexible and inviting even on short notice.

Love this mention of short notice! It’s a great reminder that NONE of us have a clean house all the time. Especially on short notice!
